Moms often do many “invisible” jobs in their homes. What is an invisible job? Well, it is work that no one appreciates is being completed until it stops being done on a regular basis. For some of us moms, we may feel like ALL the work we do is completely invisible. Happily, I am blessed with a husband who at least has a clue about how much work I do in our home.
Last February, I started to work outside the home to help produce more income for our family. In the ensuing chaos that has become my schedule; some of the invisible jobs in my home are starting to get noticed. It is not a good thing. Although my husband and daughters have been really helping out with the housework, they clearly were not aware that certain jobs still needed to get done…well, probably because they were invisible jobs!
Their experience of emerging awareness is sort of like someone throwing flour on the Invisible Man – now you can see the outline of his features, but there is still a high-level of disbelief that there is actually someone standing there.
Sadly, my neglected invisible job list is growing. It has moved beyond the house is dirty and there is no clean underwear, or dry cleaning. It has now moved to the horror of rotten food being left in the fridge for over a week! How could THAT happen??
Some of my neglected invisible jobs include:
- mopping the floors
- scrubbing the gas stove burners & backsplash
- stain removing & bleaching the white clothes
- removing the gunk off the lid of the washing machine
What are some of your invisible jobs? What would happen if they were actually noticed by your family?
Many blessings to you,
Paula
