ALEKS is working out great for my 7th grade daughter. When we started homeschooling this year, I found out that she had many gaps in her math knowledge. I attribute this to her years “working the system” at public school. She has an excellent short term-memory, and mastered the art of cramming for tests and then completely forgetting the subject matter and was rewarded with getting top grades!! ALEKS highlights the areas where my daughter needs more study and automatically generates interactive problems with online tutorials to provide assistance until she masters the topic. She loves getting the instant feedback on her progress via a color coded pie chart (she is a visual learner) instead of waiting for me to grade her work. I love that I no longer have to spend hours grading math homework every weekend!
ALEKS lets me easily monitor how much time she spends on math and the number of new items she has mastered each week. She is now back on track and planning on working ahead on the next grade level over summer. Finally, the program will not allow her to work ahead until she demonstrates mastery in all pre-requisite topics. At $180/yr ALEKS takes up a big chunk of our homeschool budget of $600, but it is well worth it.

I’ve just started getting serious about my day planner. I made my own copying forms out of a Donna Otto book. Thanks for the Donna Young resource. I see plenty there that I can use.
